Niagara Falls Community Outreach is a volunteer based charitable organization in the eyes of Revenue Canada. Our volunteers are all ages from students in grade 7 to grandparents. Approximately 300 dedicated people from various churches and the public at large give generously of their time and talent to make this programme possible. A board of directors is elected annually and oversees the operation of the program. By-laws, guidelines and an operation manual are in place.
In 2008 the Community Kitchen, with 23 years experience, merged with Out of the Cold which had been operating for 12 years. Both programs had similar mission statements. The merger alowed for wiser use of human and financial resources.
Who We Serve
Our guests are a cross section of society including all ages from single mothers with new babies to lonely senior citizens. Many face the challenges of unemployment, seasonally based employment, or fixed incomes. Some are dealing with physical, emotional, or mental challenges. Anyone in need may come to be fed with no personal questions asked.
In a one year period, over 42,000 nutritious meals are served at an average cost of $3.00 per serving. We provide a private room every Thursday for an Outreach Nurse to facilitate easy access to health care. Representatives from Niagara Falls Community Health Centre and Mental Health Units also drop by on a weekly basis to visit with guests and address concerns before they become critical. Anyone seeking shelter is connected with another agency and transportation is provided. Yearly costs are over $100,000. Every dollar counts and is used wisely!
We depend upon the generosity of churches, businesses, social clubs and individuals in the community. We also organize some fund raising events during the year. Niagara Falls Community Outreach is an independent charitable organization in the eyes of Revenue Canada with a registered number.
